You’ve never seen the origin of beer so up close. When you have a beer, you’ll think of us and remember that hop plantation, that tractor working the land, that barley field bursting with grain and ready to be harvested and malted, and that old hop-peeling machine that does its job so well.
You’ll remember Quiònia, Oscar, the hens, the horses, the fantastic local food and, of course, Pepa, our sheepdog, and how we live out our life project, because we’ll passionately explain our work and you’ll understand why each of our beers is a little work of art.
Come and visit us and you’ll see our brewery where we brew the beer, the malting room where we bring the barley to life, and the space where we handle the hops so we can use them all year round.
And of course, come and sample our beers; we’ll let you drink everything we make, from the smoothest and most refreshing to the most potent and complex.
What can you see?
THE FIELDS
We’ll show you part of our organic barley and hop fields, tell you about the good agricultural practices we employ, the different stages of cultivation, how we train the hops, what treatments we carry out, how we propagate the plants… and if you wish, you can even buy some of our hop plants.
Harvest
We harvest the hops between late August and early September and the barley in early July.
In the case of barley, the combine harvester used for harvesting is hired, whereas for hops we have our own peeling machine. If you want to see the harvesting of our ingredients and take part in it, the best time is to come during these dates.
Dryer/malting
The ingredients we grow must be processed after harvesting so that they are suitable for beer production. You will be able to see our hop dryers and our malting plant, both of which run on renewable energy (biomass and solar panels).
Once the hops are dry, they are pelletised and packaged in a controlled atmosphere to preserve them better. In the case of malt, it is stored in 25 kg containers. If you wish, you can purchase any of our products.
Yeast reproduction
To complete the circle of ingredient production at Lo Vilot, we have a biological reactor for propagating yeast.
Here we multiply the different yeast strains we use for each of the beer varieties we produce, reusing and reproducing them efficiently.
